Custom Pond Design & Construction
Are you thinking of having a koi pond, water fountain, or other water feature? Our garden designers can also incorporate a pond into your Landscape. Planning it on paper with a designer will get you one step closer to having your dream pond and landscape become a reality. However, working out your pond design before beginning any construction is necessary. Overlooking any essential factor can become very costly in terms of having to redo work already completed.
Pond ideas are:
- Koi fish
- Aquatic plants
- Fountains and waterfalls
During a in person consultation we can discuss the different types of pond ideas that will compliment your tastes and surrounding landscape.
Determining Pond Design Depth
You must consider a few factors when choosing a pond depth. During your pond design consultation our designers consider the year-round climate, fish number, size and type, sunlight conditions, winterizing options, pond size, and shape.
As a rule of thumb, a 2 feet deep pond can support fish and plants year-round in the extreme winter and summer temperatures. In addition, with proper precautions, a two-foot-deep pond can keep aquatic life virtually anywhere.
Of course, another consideration is the building and safety requirements. Most municipal city codes have regulations that state that once a pond is over 2 feet deep, it must be treated as a pool. The homeowner must abide by the same rules and regulations of pool safety, such as fences and locked gates. In some cities, this is 18 inches. So, keep that fact in mind in your pond design.
Our landscape design consultants will help you determine the appropriate depth for your pond to work with your location and other pond elements.
